We all want our homes and clothes to smell fresh, but is that “Clean Breeze” scent worth the toxic chemicals that often act as endocrine disruptors when our bodies are exposed to these cleaning products each day? For Week 29 of my Trying New Things challenge, enter the newest addition to my non-toxic cleaning product arsenal, Branch Basics.

I’ve been using Branch Basics for about 6 months now but wanted to wait to share my experience until I was able to test its efficacy in a variety of areas.  Some of the possible uses are as a laundry detergent, carpet spot cleaner, floor cleaner bath/tab cleaner, window cleaner, shampoo for pets, and fruit and vegetable wash. I’m all for reducing and simplifying my life by finding ONE product that can wear many hats, but I was skeptical that it could be good at all these things.

When you order the starter kit, you receive a large bottle of the concentrate, and additional empty bottles along with instructions for dilution ratio depending on which bottle you are adding to.  I use the concentrate daily to spray down the shower and also use as a laundry soap.  I love that there are no fumes, but it leaves my clothing smelling clean.  Here is what I received with the Starter Kit + Oxygen Boost:

  • 33 oz. Concentrate
  • 3 empty 24 oz. spray bottles (All-Purpose, Bathroom, and Streak-Free)
  • 10 oz. Foaming Wash bottle (great for washing hands and face and for dishes too!)
  • 32 oz. Laundry bottle (fights stains & odors) – enough for 64 loads at $0.24 per load
  • 2 lb. Oxygen Boost (can be used for stains on clothing and carpet)

With this Starter Kit + Oxygen Boost, you can make three of each cleaner and still have enough Concentrate left to do 64 loads of laundry.   Let’s talk about carpet stains though.  No one likes having to rent those huge carpet cleaners, right?  Our carpet has gotten increasingly stained lately thanks to our fur baby, and I was thinking we might have to rent one of those cleaners until I tried using the concentrate on the spots.  Below you can see the before and after of the spots I treated.  As you can see, it did a great job of eliminating the stains and I don’t have to worry about using it around our dog.

Purified Water, Coco Glucoside (Sugar-Based Cleanser), Chamomilla Recutita (Chamomile) Flower Extract*, Decyl Glucoside (Sugar-Based Cleanser), Sodium Citrate (Food-Grade Emulsifier), Lauryl Glucoside (Sugar-Based Cleanser), Sodium Bicarbonate (Food-Grade Baking Soda), Sodium Phytate (Plant-Based Antioxidant)

There are many more uses than those listed above. Please see their User Guide for more specific applications and instructions.

Safety: The Concentrate is human safe, not irritating to the eyes, skin, or lungs. All ingredients are rated 1 on EWG, and there are no harmful preservatives such as methylisothiazolinone, phenoxyethanol, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, or any type of alcohol. 1. hmm…interesting. I’ll admit that my husband is the main cleaner in the house. If I brought something like this home he would ask me what kind of hippy cleaner I’m trying to get him to use, ha ha. All good points though – I know we could do so much to be less toxic.

  2. Thank you for including that before and after! These look like great products and I love the fact that they are safe. I know one of my classmates in college often used cleaning products from Whole Foods that smelled great and were less toxic. I need to join the movement!
