Welcome to Blogtober, aka a fun blogger challenge to share a new post each day in the month of October! This is my first year participating and I’m excited to not only work on consistency but also stretch myself by writing about some new topics. I’m starting with a few Autumn related items, but the whole challenge will not be about Pumpkin Spice Lattes and the like, I promise. Read on to discover 10 fun things I have on my bucket list this Fall season!
Virginia Creeper Trail
You get shuttled to the top of this former railroad trail and bike all the way down, enjoying the beautiful colors of the trees along the way. It has been a few years since I have done this and hope to go this month when the colors are at their peak. It’s an easy ride and there are plenty of places to stop along the way to enjoy nature.
Run a 5k
I’m working to get back into 5k shape, and I’ve always thought the Turkey Trot and even Zombie themed races looked fun. My husband and I have participated in The Running of the Balls the last 2 years, but that’s a little closer to Christmas and I want to do a Fall race this year as well.
Make butternut squash soup
One of my favorite savory dishes to enjoy when there’s a little chill in the air! When you make it with bacon, it adds a whole new dimension of flavor that I love.
Visit an Alpaca Farm
I’m a huge animal lover and these cuties have always appealed to me, so I am looking forward to a fun-filled day on the farm being able to interact with them and maybe even buy a cozy blanket made from their wool.
Host a Fall Party
We bought a house earlier this year and I’d love to have people over for a bonfire with s’mores and some apple cider. If I’m brave, I may even attempt to make an apple pie.
Hike in a new park
There are so many parks near us in North Carolina and Virginia that we have yet to explore, so I can’t wait to hike some new trails and enjoy the fall colors and gorgeous views in new places. We have quite a few miles left to finish our 100-mile challenge this year.
Kayaking
I have been a huge wimp this summer and have not wanted to be out on the water with the high temperatures we’ve been experiencing, but now that it is starting to cool off, bring on the paddling!
Start a garden
We plan to start our garden with raised planter boxes this year and have already started a decent compost pile which I love. Such a great way to reduce food waste and provide soil that our future veggies will thrive in.
Roast some chestnuts
I love the taste of them and they usher in feelings of warmth, cozy evenings and the holidays.
Make a wreath
I’m not a crafty or DIY person at all, but I’ve always thought it would be fun to actually be able to create my own wreath. I haven’t decided on the material yet, but I’m interested in things like burlap, wine corks, and succulents as my building blocks.
Well, there you have it. Did any of the things on my list strike your fancy? What is one thing you have on your Fall bucket list or that you’re looking forward to doing this month? Don’t be shy, share it below!
Thanks for coming along on my first journey into Blogtober. Let me know if you have any specific things you’d be interested in reading about this month – I’m open to all suggestions!

These are fantastic ideas, and have given me some inspiration for my own Blogtober challenge! I especially like the sound of butternut squash soup. I hope you get round to trying all these!
