If you had to listen to one style of music for the rest of your life, what would you choose? My taste in music has definitely evolved over the years, but if I had to pick one, I would probably choose Reggae. It always puts me in a good mood and makes me feel like I’m at the beach. My travel playlist contains songs that are a combination of relaxing (to help calm my road rage from being in heavy traffic), upbeat (to keep me awake on long drives), and nostalgic (I like to reflect on good memories when I’m driving). I drive a lot each month for work, so I try to split the time in the car between my favorite tunes and listening to podcasts to make the drive go by more quickly.
Here’s my list, in no particular order. The videos are all below in case you want to listen!
- Matisyahu – Sunshine
- Jack Johnson – Go On
- Porcupine Tree – Lazarus
- Toto – Africa
- Coldplay – Miracles
- For King & Country – Run Wild
- Embrace – Target
- Rob Thomas – Little Wonders
- Ivy – Edge of the Ocean
- Alan Jackson – Summertime Blues

Matisyahu – Sunshine
I’ve been a Matisyahu fan since I saw him in concert back in 2007. His style has definitely changed, but his original content is my favorite. So full of depth! I like this one so much that we had it as our entrance song at our wedding reception!
Jack Johnson – Go On
When you need a little push to just keep on going, Jack’s got ya!
Porcupine Tree – Lazarus
Such an incredibly calming and peaceful song.
Toto – Africa
What a classic! Who doesn’t like singing along with this one??
Coldplay – Miracles
There really isn’t a Coldplay song that I don’t like, but we had an acoustic version of this one played as we walked down the aisle, so this is another meaningful one for me.
For King And Country – Run Wild
This Australian duo never disappoints with their lyrics: “We’re made to run wild, live free, love strong”. What better message when you’re out and about exploring and seeing the world around you?
Embrace – Target
Can you tell I’m partial to male vocalists?
Rob Thomas – Little Wonders
I’ve always liked this song for how it makes me think about treasuring the “small hours” and the little things in life.
Ivy – Edge of the Ocean
A song of new beginnings. Another one that always puts me in a good mood.
Alan Jackson – Summertime Blues
Sometimes you just want to roll the windows down and enjoy a little country!

A terrific list, but you know, Toto may be the most reviled group of all time! Kinda kidding, but they were always denigrated for their “muzak” approach to pop…that said, I saw a night of “Yacht Rock” at The Hollywood Bowl…and yes, guys showed up wearing Boat Captain caps! Here’s that story if you are interested – https://johnrieber.com/2018/08/16/setting-sail-with-yacht-rock-kenny-loggins-michael-mcdonald-christoper-cross-set-sail-at-the-hollywood-bowl/

Wow, I actually had no idea about this controversy!

It’s a funny debate among classic rock music fans, who feel the 80’s did the genre no favors!
