Good Paying Work From Home Job Opportunity – no sales or phone calls required!

*Disclosure: I work for Data Annotation Tech but do not receive any compensation if you sign up to work for them through the links in this post*

Over the past year, I’ve been searching for a job I could do from home on my own schedule, and it’s proven to be challenging to find something that’s legitimate, flexible and pays well. With a young child, my schedule is almost never the same from day to day, so finding work that I can do during his naps or after he’s in bed at night was at the top of my list. I enjoy writing for NewsBreak and make a decent income from that, but I wanted to add some variety for the days I need a break from writing.

Many jobs I’ve applied for require availability during certain daytime hours, direct sales, a lot of phone calls, or have a stressful environment for very little pay so the job hunt had become quite discouraging. Recently, a friend mentioned that she had started working for Data Annotation Tech and it piqued my interest, as I had not heard of this company and technology jobs have always interested me.

I checked out their website and decided to apply to be an annotater for them! They ask you to complete a brief summary of your work background and skills to start the process, so I did that, and within 48 hours they contacted me to have me take their starter assessment. This is an aptitude test that involves some creative writing, proofreading and analytical thinking, along with showing you’re able to back up your answers with thoughtful reasoning. It was challenging but I enjoyed being able to showcase my personality and creativity through my answers.

After a few days, I heard back that they had accepted me as an annotater and I was thrilled to be able to move forward with their company. They have some training activities that offer you a helpful introduction to the work you’ll be doing, which involves projects evaluating AI chat bots, among other things. I’ve had my share of concerns about AI in general and possible nefarious implications of it becoming too powerful, but at the same time it is definitely here to stay and something that we should all be well-versed in using since it is already established in so many aspects of our everyday lives.

I can’t disclose details about the projects I work on due to confidentiality agreements, but I can tell you the pay is definitely good (my current project offers $20 per hour, and some offer up to $35 per hour) and you are paid via PayPal on a rolling basis every 7 days. There seems to be plenty of work available, but I have noticed the higher paid projects do tend to get claimed quickly, so it’s important to check your emails or log in often to see what is available as new projects are dropped.

They also offer “qualification” tasks that will enable you to claim the projects that pay more if you do well and pass the qualification, so keep an eye out for those. It’s important to keep in mind you would be considered a 1099 contractor, so this is not a W2 job and you will need to account for paying taxes and set some of your earnings aside for that.

Some may view this type of work as monotonous, but so far I have enjoyed learning about each project and interacting with other annotaters as they have a community on Slack where you can share feedback and ask questions. I have been able to work whenever is convenient for me, including nights, and there are no minimum or maximum requirements. Have a vacation coming up and you won’t be available for a few weeks? No problem, no need to ask anyone for clearance or time off! Have unexpected expenses pop up in a certain month? You can work more hours to help pay for those things.

I’ll admit, I was skeptical that this would be a legitimate job because I’ve been burned in the past, but I’m incredibly grateful to have found this company and for the flexibility and freedom they offer so many people to be able to work remotely! Interested in working for them? Sign up here!
