How To Choose Safe & Effective Supplements for Fitness and Health Using Labdoor

With so many celebrities and influencers each promoting the “very best” supplement for this and that, it can be difficult to cut through the hype and determine what you should buy, right?  I’m always skeptical of products that I see promoted unless I see the third-party testing results myself.  Safety and quality are of utmost importance since this will likely be something you take every week, if not every day.

Recently I was listening to a new local fitness and health podcast called Sweat City and they were discussing using a site they used to find safe and effective supplements called Labdoor.  I looked into it and have been impressed by the rigorous testing process and the fact that it is backed by mega-investors like Mark Cuban.

*** Note: I am not in any way affiliated or compensated by Labdoor and all opinions in this post are my own.***

The premise is that Labdoor buys products both from retail stores and online and they test them at FDA-registered labs for 5 things:

  • Label Accuracy
  • Product Purity
  • Nutritional Value
  • Ingredient Safety
  • Projected Efficacy

I found one of the brands of Fish Oil I have used for a while on Labdoor and was glad to see that it tested as safe on Mercury levels.  Labdoor is still a growing site so not all major supplements will be shown on it, but it’s a good place to start when you’re looking to find safe vitamins and supplements or want to check the ones you’re already using.  Below are just some of the categories of products that they test.  I like that they link to the products as well, making it easy to purchase.

If your product is not on this site, you can go to the brand’s website to see if they list third-party testing or reach out to them to ask for the third-party testing results.  If they don’t have this testing or refuse to share the results, it may be a red flag.  One of my favorite supplement companies, Organifi, isn’t on Labdoor but I feel confident in their quality because I have seen the third-party test results that they provide.

The bottom line: any brand or celebrity can make claims and share anecdotal results they’ve experienced that can be incredibly compelling, but don’t let feelings or popularity guide your purchase.  Only trust brands that are willing to be third-party tested and are transparent about their results.
I’m so glad to have found Labdoor as a resource and hope it will be helpful for you as well.
Thanks for reading.
